My mom calls me Keys and now everyone else does too.

When I was in college, I joined the rowing team.

I was in the gym and walked past crew tryouts and decided to give it a go. Warm up lap complete, I got on the erg and started rowing. All of a sudden, I was surrounded by onlookers and a coach shouting in my ear to keep going. When to push harder. To pace myself.

I was burning to get off. I thought, “This is crazy. Never mind!” But it seemed everyone was watching and I knew I’d feel the pang of disappointment if I walked away because it was hard. Because it hurt. Because from where I was starting, I knew I had a lot to learn.

But after awhile, my skinny jeans fit again.
